Last winter, RC Amsterdam Halfweg came in contact with Marijn, Sam and Ties. These are students from Delft University of Technology who are looking for solutions for the re-use of plastic. They are inspired by Wilson Mzungu, who works as CEO Kenya & co-founder at Muima. The three men are nowadays also a part of Muima, where they use their knowledge and ideas to contribute to the reuse of plastic. In addition, they have their own start-up, called Nurdle Plastics.
However, they want more: they want to inspire people through simple workshops to deal in a different way with the plastic waste. One can think of collecting their own separated plastic with a group, and that this plastic can be processed into something that can be fun and/or useful for them. Result: durability of plastic.
A project group from RC Amsterdam Halfweg, worked together with Marijn, Sam and Ties. They came up with an idea to also develop a teaching package for schools, in which the plastic collected by the children themselves is processed into a key ring, for example. The equipment required for this lesson is made by the men themselves (TU Delft), reimbursed by the RC Amsterdam Halfweg, and will be taken at the Montessori education in Amsterdam as soon as it is ready. This package will be offered at schools in the area and can be expanded relatively easily and at low costs with a so-called Tinkercad software. This allows children to design stuff in 3D and actually realize their own design with a 3D printer.
