On September 12th, 2026, EndPlasticSoup, in collaboration with RhineCleanUp and Maas Cleanup, is organizing the 1st River Cleanup Europe. We invite all Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact clubs to register an event in their area.

Background information:
In Germany the Rhine Cleanup organization organizes a big day of action on September 12th: the Germany country-wide Rhine cleanup day for riversides of the Rhine, Danube, Elbe, Wezer, Oder, Moselle and many others. In The Netherlands we collaborate with the Maas Cleanup, the Schone IJssel and the River Cleanup in Belgium for cleanups of the Maas, Rhine, Waal, IJssel, Schelde and others. Across Europe we get actions from clubs in England along the Thames, and in Switzerland, Austria, Hungary and the Balkan to take action along the sides of the Danube and its side rivers.
We would be delighted if many Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact clubs would participate and register a body of water in their local area. We therefore ask all of you to mention this important event in your district and clubs, and plan a cleanup in your own region. Plastic pollution is not only a threat to the health of people and animals, but also to our climate. The decomposition of plastic waste in nature, and especially in the oceans, not only releases greenhouse gases and microplastics, but also reduce CO2 absorption that pose an even greater problem for our climate.
During the Rotary Europe Action Summit a breakfast Plastic Fishing boat cleanup takes place on September 12th at 7.30 am in the rivers Rotte and Maas.
The River Cleanup Europe is supported by www.rhinecleanup.org, www.maascleanup.nl and River Cleanup.
On September 12th, EndPlasticSoup organizes a Breakfast Boat Cleanup from 7.30-8.30 am, as part of the Rotary European Action Summit in Rotterdam.
