At just 17 years old, Indonesian youth activist Aeshnina (Nina) Azzahra Aqilani is showing the world that age is no barrier to impact.
ㅤ
Nina was named a finalist for the International Children’s Peace Prize 2025, a global award honoring young changemakers fighting for children’s rights and a better future.
ㅤ
From her hometown in East Java, Nina has led cleanups, youth education programs, and bold campaigns against waste colonialism, the toxic trade of waste from rich nations to the Global South.
We nominated Nina because of her great achievements for ending plastic pollution worldwide and stopping export of plastic waste to Indonesia. The EU agreed that exporti of plastic waste to outside the EU should stop per January 1st, 2027. Some countries will stop per July 1st, 2026. In November 2025 Nina, our Young Ambassador since 2020, became finalist for the International Children’s Peace Prize 2025, that was rewarded in Stockholm, Sweden.
