Ellyanne Wanjiku Chlystun Githae is 11 years old from Peponi House Preparatory in Nairobi, Kenya.
She is Kenya’s Youngest Mashujaa, Mashujaa is Swahili for ‘Heroes’, & East Africa’s Youngest Climate Change Ambassador. She was awarded as a Paul Harris Fellow at the African Centennial in April 2021, when she was 10 years old. Ellyanne is famous for her initiatives to plant trees and stop plastic pollution.
Ellyanne Wanjiku stole everybody’s hearts and inspired Rotarians to adopt and celebrate the new focus of Rotary, supporting the environment. Environment is the source of all life on earth and among other things, allows us to eat and heal ourselves.
We are honoured that Ellyanne Wanjiku Chlystun Githae wants to become Young Ambassador for EndPlasticSoup, the global initiative for Rotary to solve and prevent plastic pollution.
Ellyanne will continue to inspire young people in Kenya to care about the environment, plant trees and stop plastic pollution.
She has also offered to organize interactions with schools in The Netherlands, and possibly also in Germany and the UK.

For EndPlasticSoup, the global initiative for Rotary to solve and prevent plastic pollution, it is important to work together with others. Create awareness, supporting young people and building alliances are our priorities.
Plastic pollution is such a huge problem, that we cannot solve it on our own. Together we want to make the world a better and cleaner place to live for next generations and save this wonderful planet for those to come.
Our personal contribution to this environmental problem might be small, but by working together with all Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and many other organizations in the world we can achieve a lot.
