Our Rotaract Ambassador Club in Uganda, Rotaract club of Muteesa 1 Royal University Kirumba Masaka D9214, prepares an education and awareness project “Youth for a plastic free lake Victoria”.
The target area is the Kalangala district and lake Victoria landing and fishing site. The project target population are 6000 school children and 4000 Community members, 30 schools and 12 fishing and landing sites in the lake Victoria area. Community representatives (school administrators, doctors, parents, fishermen, communities leaders, district and government leaders) are involved. The project aims to do 20 community cleanups, 50 campaign, and establish 300 plastic collection centers.
The project wants to promote reduction of plastic waste, separation and collection of plastic waste, and cooperation with community initiatives, local partners and organizations willing to invest and contribute financially.
Expected start is beginning of 2023. We ask our Ambassador and Supporter Clubs, Districts and fellow Rotarians for financial support to this great initiative in Uganda. In a second phase of the project the aim will be to set up a recycling center and an educational center.
The 2nd phase shall also establish micro finance to entrepreneurs and community members involved in the plastic fight and recycling chain of work, and apply for a global impact Grant.

Kalangala district also known as ssese is a district in Uganda with 5.1 % land and the rest is water, with 84 widely scattered islands and 43 inhabited ones the largest being bugala, current population of 35,000 people
Lake Victoria which is the largest African Great lake with a surface area of approximately 59,947km(23,146 sq mi) and worlds 2nd largest freshwater lake 7,142 kilometers after the worlds largest continental lake superior in north America
