RC Al Shorouk (D2451 Egypt), RC München-Land (D1842,Germany) and NGO VeryNile, decided to make a Global Grant project at Assiut which is situated 500 km south of Cairo and on the River Nile.
In relation with the initiatives Adopt a river and End Plastic Soup, the project aims to collect the plastic from the Nile via the fishermen in the area thus reducing the plastic and making income to the fishermen from the collected plastic.
VeryNile is partnering with 50 fishermen from the small village of Bisrah, located 15 km south of Assiut.
The following are the objectives of the grant:
- Renovating fishermen boats
- Education children age 4-14
- Providing job opportunities to women involving women’s artisans from Cairo and Assiut to create fashion products made of upcycled plastic bags and organic waste.
Support from Rotarians and clubs is welcomed.
Budget required: 38 K Euro (44K USD).
