Early April 2023 plastic pollution was discussed at the Africa Children Conference and it will be on the Outcome Statement that will be shared. The Africa Children’s Summit is a continental forum that seeks to give children a platform for participation.
EndPlasticSoup’s Young Ambassador Ellyanne Wanjiku from Kenya was one of the attendees. She interviewed Dr. Philiip from the UN Child Rights Committee based in Geneva. And she interviewed many children and also Lady Justice Teresia regarding the Children’s Justice.
Driven by children from Kenya, and amplified by Mtoto News, the Summit’s goal is to empower African children and create a space where they feel seen, heard and engaged by their peers and community.
The Summit brought together children from across Africa and beyond to share their experiences on matters of children rights and protection; the unique challenges they face; interventions by their governments and share recommendations or solutions.
The Summit was child-led and was hosted by children in Nairobi Kenya on 10th to 12th April 2023. The inaugural Summit was graced by the Vice Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child Prof.Phillip D. Jaffè and the UN Special Representative of the Secretary General on Violence Against Children Dr. Najat Maalla M’Jid.
