On 10th July 2021 a large cleanup took place of the Río Lerma in Metepec, México, in a cooperation of the Municipality and Rotary clubs to recycle all the plastics collected.
The River Lerma is clogged with plastic pollution from the cities nearby. It is a bad situation, but the good thing is that is the bridge from where the picture was taken has served as a barrier to stop all the plastic and has given us an opportunity to collect all the garbage and plastics
After two days of work, we were finally starting to see some water. The debris that is taken out is separated by the volunteers: separate plastic, metals, wood and other waste from the organic materials.
EndPlasticSoup gave a donation that paid for measurements, collection of data and fuel for the machines to sort the waste. In this way a start was made to work more upstream, not just cleaning but also learning about sorting and waste processing, detecting the source of the waste and opportunities to prevent waste in the river Lerma.
