Great news from Cairo Egypt. The Global Grant Project ‘Nile Plastic free’, reached a great milestone. The Global Grant is funded by over 22 Rotary clubs, 3 Districts, individual sponsorship and EndPlasticSoup!
On 7 June the new catamaran boat has been launched for cleaning the Nile from plastic, a great milestone!
Objective
- Build a catamaran for collecting the plastic from the Nile and send it for recycling.
- Make an awareness program for fishermen on the dangers of plastic on the environment.
Global Grant
The Grant budget is $ 62977 and our Ambassador Club RC Al Shorouk, D2451, Egypt, is the host club, contact Amin Sabri, supported by RC Moenchenland, D1842, Germany is the coordinating International sponsor club. Further support came from 10 Egyptian clubs, 9 German clubs, Ambassador Club, 1 RC Lake Havasu City, D5495, USA, Mr. Salvador Rico, USA, EndPlasticSoup, and Districts 1842, 2451 and 5150,
The boat will be managed by VeryNile group initiative (non profit group, https://verynile.org) who are active on environmental projects on the Nile and Rotary cooperates with them..
The boat is now on the Nile and is being tested. The official handing has been done on 7 June in the presence of IDG district 2451, along with delegates from the 11 Egyptian clubs, and covered by DMC television channel.
Our aim is to follow up with awareness for about 100 fishermen on the Nile, cleaning the Nile through environmental action and youth engagement, the organization of clean up events, and recycling.
