- Die Menge an Kunststoff, die weltweit jährlich produziert wird, ist von 2 Millionen Tonnen im Jahr 1950 auf 390 Millionen Tonnen im Jahr 2021 gestiegen (Zahlen der Kunststoffindustrie https://plasticseurope.org).
- 56 % des Kunststoffs wurden nach dem Jahr 2000 hergestellt. Es wird erwartet, dass die Produktion bis 600 weiter auf etwa 2025 Millionen Tonnen ansteigen wird.
- Etwa 40 % aller Kunststoffprodukte werden innerhalb eines Monats weggeworfen
